Listen to the Birds
One thing I’ve come to appreciate are Birds as Alarms. During the summer when the crows are nesting and territorial they alert us by constant squawking whenever a predatory bird is on the property.
Now we have a dozen heritage turkeys that we are raising. I heard their alarm call today. It’s a sharp, quick “Blweep! Blweep!” and looked outside. The chickens had run into their coop because, they’re, well…chicken. There was a big heron in our big pond (again).
I quickly chased him off (again). He’s hunting our semi ginormous goldfish and all of their little spawn.
